How to choose a printing or design service

For printed products, the proof is your last chance to catch errors. Check spelling, phone numbers, margins and colors before approving it, because most printers will not reprint for mistakes in an approved file.

  • Color: screens show color differently from ink on paper. If exact color matters, ask for a printed sample.
  • Files: follow the printer's file guidelines on resolution and bleed to avoid blurry or cut-off edges.
  • Turnaround: production time and shipping time are separate. Add them together when planning.
  • Licenses: for stock photos, fonts and templates, read the license. Some uses, such as products for resale or logos, may need an extended license or may not be allowed.
  • Self-publishing: check printing cost per copy, royalties and who holds the rights to your work.

Common problems and how to avoid them

Common complaints include colors that differ from the screen, late orders before events, and subscriptions to stock or template sites that renew without warning. Order samples for large runs, leave buffer time, and set a reminder for renewal dates.

On CandorRated, company pages show who runs the website, how long its domain has existed, the contact details we found and reviews from other customers. Lists can be filtered by country and city if you prefer a local printer you can visit.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use a free template for my business logo?

Check the template's license. Many do not allow use as a logo or trademark.

Who is responsible for a typo on my printed order?

Usually you, if the error was in the approved proof. Printers normally reprint only for their own production faults.
