About CarGurus

CarGurus is an online automotive marketplace. Shoppers search listings of new and used cars from dealers and private sellers, compare prices and read research about models. It also has apps for Android and iOS. The company was founded in November 2005 and is headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is publicly traded under the ticker CARG. Its cargurus.com domain has been registered since 1999, and CarGurus has a Wikipedia article. Its website includes about, careers, contact, terms and privacy pages, and the company has accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn and TikTok. A listing site connects you with sellers, but the sale itself is usually with the dealer or private seller, so their terms and paperwork decide what you are buying. Ask for the vehicle history report and service records, and get an independent inspection before paying. Compare the listed price with the final out-the-door figure, which can include dealer fees, taxes and add-ons. Be cautious with private sellers who want payment before you have seen the car or who ask for unusual payment methods. Check the title is clean and in the seller's name before handing over money.
